Unique Protective Barrier for IncontinenceChronic bladder and bowel incontinence is recognized as a major and escalating clinical problem. Incontinence is a significant cause of disability and dependency in the aged in the United States and is estimated to affect one of every 25 Americans. Management of incontinence is financially demanding, costing two and one-half times that of continent patient care. Management of incontinence is also labor intensive, requiring constant care by primary caregivers or the family in order to maintain skin integrity and avoid the consequences of secondary infections. In this Phase II study a multidisciplinary team has been assembled to complete development and test SkIntact™, an innovative, cost effective product barrier film that has been designed to improve dryness, maintain skin integrity and reduce secondary infection. Phase II studies include optimization of the polymer chemistry and the development of manufacturing techniques to support safety studies in laboratory animals and a staged human clinical trial for safety and efficacy.
